How BRISA transformed Health Technology Assessment in the Americas: celebrating 5,000 published reports
December 26, 2025

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) launches a new publication entitled Essential components for presenting information in guidelines, health technology assessments, essential medicines lists, and evidence syntheses for policies.
This publication aims to improve the quality and comprehensiveness of these four evidence products, which are essential for strengthening evidence-based decision-making in health. Together, they contribute to improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and transparency of health systems, with direct impacts on both individuals and public health.
“Developing these evidence products using similar methodological approaches and common presentation standards is key to strengthening collaboration between countries and regions, as it improves comparability and sharing of evidence, promotes contextual adaptation of existing evidence, increases credibility and trust in evidence products, and facilitates technical cooperation and learning among countries,” explained Dr. Ludovic Reveiz, Chief of the Science and Knowledge for Impact Unit of the Department of Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health at PAHO.
The document was reviewed by members of RedETSA (Health Technology Assessment Network of the Americas) and EVIPNet (Evidence-Informed Policy Network), as well as by other experts involved in the development of these evidence products.
Developed by the Science and Knowledge for Impact Unit and the Access to Medicines and Health Technologies Unit of the PAHO Department of Innovation, Access to Medicines and Health Technologies, this publication is intended for WHO and PAHO staff, Member States, collaborating centers, and other partner organizations. Its objective is to strengthen the quality, comprehensiveness, and efficiency of evidence-based products that support health decision-making.
The publication is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
