- Context: Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is a multidisciplinary process that uses explicit methods to determine the value of a health technology at different points in its life cycle. Its purpose is to inform decision-making to promote equitable, efficient, and high-quality health systems. Although its greatest development focused on informing the adoption of health technologies at the national level, more recently, and due to the availability of new technologies at the institutional level, the use of HTA to support decision-making in hospitals has expanded. Hospital-based HTAs analyze whether the evaluated technologies provide a benefit to the specific population served by the institution and determine the organizational impact of the investment or divestment being analyzed.
