XII Annual Meeting of RedETSA and II Congress of Rebrats
October 7, 2022
On March 16, 2023, the Ministry of Health and Wellness of Jamaica officially joined the Health Technology Assessment Network of the Americas (RedETSA). It is the first institution in the country to join RedETSA. With its incorporation, the Network now has 41 members from 21 countries in the Americas.
One of the major challenges facing health systems in achieving Universal Health is the pursuit of equity, quality of care, and efficiency, and health technologies play an essential role in this. As part of its direct technical cooperation, PAHO supports Member States in strengthening regulatory frameworks and human resources, generating evidence, disseminating information, and promoting network collaboration through the Health Technology Assessment Network of the Americas (RedETSA), of which PAHO serves as the secretariat. For its part, one of Jamaica's main functions is decision-making on the incorporation of technologies into the health system and has implemented a multidisciplinary working group on HTA.
In collaboration with PAHO, the Jamaican HTA working group is in the process of developing a Health Technology Assessment and Management Policy for Jamaica. The incorporation of Jamaica's Ministry of Health and Wellness into RedETSA will strengthen the network and its activities in the region.
